The History of Chuck E. Cheese Plaza Oeste

 Chuck E. Cheese´s Mall Plaza Oeste (2011-2024)

Chuck E. Cheese´s "Plaza Oeste" was the third Chuck E. Cheese store in Chile, opening on January 2, 2011 as a "Phase 4" Chuck E. Cheese´s, at the Plaza Oeste shopping center. It remained in operation until late 2024, when the franchise moved to a new location within the same mall without its MMBB animatronic stage.

Opening and Early Years (2011-2015)

Plaza Oeste opened as part of the CEC 2000s Remodel Program, featuring the standard Avenger Chuck exterior with brown checkered walls and purple and red awnings.

The store’s Cyberamic set originally came from Chuck E. Cheese´s Pizza at Mall Plaza Vespucio, which had closed in the year 2000. Before arriving in Chile, these animatronics were installed at the former Pizza Time Theatre in Penfield Rochester, New York, making them one of the most traveled Cyberamic sets in the franchise’s history. After over a decade in storage, they were installed at the new Chuck E. Cheese´s in Mall Plaza Oeste, where they remained in operation until late 2024.

The stage had a few missing elements upon opening, such as Chuck E.’s shorts and Munch’s piano front, which were installed a month later. In 2011, Chuck E.’s mask was replaced with a newer version, and in fall 2012, the animatronic finally received its Avenger shorts, correcting a detail that had been missing from the beginning.

Mid to Late 2010s (2015-2020)

Between 2015 and 2020, Plaza Oeste retained much of its early 2000s Chuck E. Cheese aesthetic, setting it apart from other locations that underwent modern renovations.

The Cyberamic animatronics remained in good condition, often in better shape than those at Chuck E. Cheese´s Cantagallo. During these years, some modifications were made to the stage and lighting:

2015: Individual spotlights for Chuck E., Munch, and Pasqually were removed.

- 2017: Only the live show floodlights remained functional.

2019: An ADJ Jelly Ball was briefly installed but removed by the end of the year.

Technical Issues with Cyberstar (2013-2024)

The Cyberstar system, which controlled the animatronic show, developed several malfunctions over the years:

- 2013: The system began experiencing glitches but was repaired.

- 2019: A DVD player replacement caused the Cyberstar to totally stop recognizing signals, leaving the show stuck in random mode indefinitely.

- December 2019: A partial fix restored some functions, but misfiring signals continued to cause issues.

2024: Most of these problems were resolved, though the fixes were short-lived due to the store’s impending closure.

Closure and Relocation (2024)

In late 2024, it was announced that CEC Plaza Oeste would close and move to a new location within the same mall. However, the relocation did not include the Cyberamic Show, marking the end of Plaza Oeste as an animatronic location.

Preservation and Legacy (2025-Present)

In 2025, the Cyberamic set was acquired by an amateur group of students focused on preserving Chuck E. Cheese animatronics. The set was transferred to Chuck E. Cheese´s Cantagallo, where restoration efforts began, nowadays the set can be seen performing in great condition at this store.
